Time Tracking for Construction
Time tracking built for construction sites
Track hours across multiple sites with GPS-verified clock-in, QR kiosks for site entrances, and real-time visibility of who's on-site. Built for the realities of construction: subcontractors, variable shifts, and remote locations.
The difference
Why construction teams use CubeHR for time tracking
GPS-verified clock-in ensures workers are on the correct site
QR kiosk mode for site entrance tablets, so no phones are needed
Track hours across multiple sites and projects
Automatic overtime calculations for HMRC compliance
Offline mode for sites with poor connectivity
Real-time site headcount for health and safety
In practice
How construction businesses actually use it
A groundworks contractor uses QR kiosks at site gates so operatives clock in as they arrive, and managers see live headcount from the office
A regional builder tracks hours across 12 active sites, with GPS proving attendance for client invoicing
The problem
Construction HR problems that time tracking solves
Tracking hours across multiple sites
Workers move between sites daily. Paper timesheets are unreliable, and payroll takes days to process.
Right to work compliance
High workforce turnover means right to work checks must be thorough and up-to-date. Fines for non-compliance are severe.
Training and certification expiry
CSCS cards, PASMA, IPAF, first aid: dozens of certifications that must be current. Tracking them in spreadsheets is a liability.
Health & safety documentation
Incident reports, near-miss records, and safety briefing acknowledgements need to be documented and accessible.
Questions
Time Tracking FAQ
How do QR codes prevent fraud?
Each QR code contains an HMAC-SHA256 cryptographic signature and a Unix timestamp. Codes expire after 2 minutes (configurable) and can optionally be single-use. Screenshot sharing is blocked by the expiry mechanism.
Can we use time tracking without QR codes?
Absolutely. QR codes are optional. You can use GPS clock-in from the mobile app, manual timesheet entry, or kiosk PIN codes. Mix and match by location or team.
Does it comply with UK Working Time Regulations?
Yes. CubeHR can flag when employees exceed the 48-hour weekly average (over 17 weeks), miss 11-hour rest periods between shifts, or skip 20-minute breaks on 6+ hour shifts.
Can managers edit timesheets?
Yes, with full audit trail. Any manual adjustment by a manager is logged: who changed it, what they changed, and when. The original clock event data is always preserved.
